It seems that the Internet just added a whole slew of worries for parents out there. It basically just took all the evils on this planet and made it a mere click away from kids. What can we do, right? We have to take the good with the bad. It generally works that way for everything. Take video emails, for instance. A video email is a great marketing tool for legit and moral businesses, but it is also just as helpful for something less upstanding.
To deal with this seemingly wide open portal to undesirable things, get an Internet filter. A good one should include porn blocking (for obvious reasons), profanity masking (of course, if the people around your kid have sewer mouths, then this would be pointless), time management (great for establishing limits), social media monitoring (not an invasion of their privacy as you have to be on top of the situation; bullying, harassing, inappropriate contact requests, etc. could potentially occur…), and IM and chat monitoring (for the same reasons stated above).
Of course, kids also outsmart web filters all the time. This is why you have to keep on upgrading. Technology does work for you. Unfortunately, it does work for the enemy too. The difference is that you have the law on your side. Usually.
